Could the cable or device be broken?

Hi,
I just bought a new USB-Printer (Samsung ML-1410) which is supposedly
supported by linux (even says so on the printers box).
The Problem is that it neither works on my Desktop nor Laptop with
pretty much the same usb kernel errors. (kernel-2.6.9-gentoo-r1)
Ive got a Tiger MP S2460 Motherboard with two Athlon MPs.
I updated the Bios to the newest available version as of today
(1.05 - 01/02/03).
Since I also got a USB-2.0 PCI Card (the Motherboard only had USB-1.1),
and it worked on neither, I appended ohci(motherboard) and
uhci(usb-card) connection logs:

Ive got tons of other usb devices just working fine (e.g. mouse,
keyboard, webcam, usb-storage devices etc.)
Booting with noapic acpi=off didnt help.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Nils Gladitz
